Scott Belako is the Principal of Nelson County High School in Nelson County Public Schools, Virginia, and brings more than 26 years of experience in public education. He began his career as an elementary teacher in Stafford County Public Schools before advancing through roles as an assistant principal, principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, Director of Instruction and Innovation, and Director of Transportation.Throughout his career, Scott has focused on creating high-performing schools by aligning instructional practices, using data to drive decision-making, restructuring school systems to maximize teaching and learning, and fostering positive school cultures. He has successfully led multiple school improvement and turnaround efforts that have resulted in increased student achievement, stronger family engagement, reductions in student discipline and chronic absenteeism, and expanded opportunities for student success. At the division level, he has led initiatives in curriculum and instruction, professional learning, Virginia Tiered Systems of Supports (VTSS), artificial intelligence guidance for educators, and the implementation of high-quality instructional materials.Scott has presented at CIP Region Leaders, VASCD, VASSP, AMLE, and VMSA conferences and has served on the Virginia Department of Education's Return to Learn Taskforce and the VASCD Profile of a Virginia Classroom Review Team.
