Jen Brown has over 26 years of experience as an educator and currently serves as an Educational Specialist for Elementary Social Studies in Fairfax County Public Schools. She has previously taught special education and general education (upper elementary grades), and has served as a teacher leader, coach, and cooperating teacher for novice teachers.
Jen earned a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Pittsburgh, was a National Board Certified Teacher (2008-2018), and holds an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia. Jen has served as a Teacher Intern Supervisor at the University of Virginia Curry School of Education and as a consultant with the Virginia Department of Education, serving on various curriculum, assessment, and professional development committees.Jen is a dedicated, innovative educator who believes that by leveraging shared expertise through collaboration, professional learning, and research-based practices, she can truly make a difference in designing a social studies curriculum that empowers teachers and elevates student voice through inquiry and authentic, meaningful learning experiences. She is passionate about building teacher capacity through professional learning and believes that all students can and should engage in the critical thinking skills needed to be informed, active, empathetic, and positive contributors to their local, state, national, and global communities.
