Janira Collado is a multilingual educator from Puerto Rico with over 12 years of teaching experience. She earned a Master of Education in Educational Psychology with an ESOL Teacher Preparation specialization from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.Throughout her career, Janira has focused on fostering self-regulation skills in students and collaborating with English Language Arts teachers as a co-teacher. Through these partnerships, she helped increase Standards of Learning (SOL) passing rates among English language learners by making the curriculum more relevant and accessible, resulting in higher levels of student engagement and academic success.Her dedication to student achievement has earned her several professional honors. In 2021, she was recognized as the Culturally Responsive Teacher of the Year by Prince William County Public Schools. She also received an Earth Day Proclamation Certificate from the Mayor of Dumfries after her students participated in a Town Council meeting to advocate for the protection of endangered animals.Among her notable accomplishments, Janira applied educational research to create and facilitate a Family Literacy Writing Project, which brought families together to write and share their stories. Participants collaboratively authored and published a hardcover book funded through a George Mason University grant. The project later became part of a manuscript submitted and accepted to the Virginia Association for Teaching, Learning, and Leading (VATLL), highlighting her role as lead teacher and researcher.In addition, Janira authored a reflection published in the January 2025 issue of the

Contemporary Pioneers in Human Learning and Development: Teaching, Research, and Applications.Another significant achievement was the design and implementation of a curriculum-aligned unit on endangered animals that connected classroom learning to civic engagement. This initiative empowered students to advocate before the Dumfries Town Council and culminated in an Earth Day Proclamation and official recognition from the Mayor of Dumfries.Janira currently teaches English and continues to advocate for equitable educational opportunities, culturally responsive practices, and meaningful learning experiences for all students.Powered by
