About me
Dr. Aurelia Ortiz serves as Deputy Superintendent for Hopewell City Public Schools, where she leads instructional strategy, continuous improvement, and leadership development across the division. A former teacher, principal, and state education leader, she is passionate about helping leaders move systems from activity to impact through clarity, coaching, and intentional leadership.
Dr. Ortiz is the founder of buildHERship LLC (2017) and has served as Executive Director of Women Education Leaders in Virginia (WELV, 2022). In 2026, she was honored with the Virginia Association for Teaching, Learning and Leading (VATLL) Leadership Impact Award in recognition of her contributions to educational leadership across the Commonwealth. She believes every leader has the opportunity to create conditions where both students and adults thrive.
