Joanne H. Jones, Ed.D.Dr. Joanne H. Jones of Collabco Consulting, LLC is an accomplished educational leader with three decades of experience spanning classroom teaching to executive leadership roles. She is steadfastly committed to advancing educational excellence across diverse populations and all organizational levels.In her recent role as Executive Director of Secondary Teaching & Learning and K-12 Programs at Newport News Public Schools, Dr. Jones provided visionary leadership, overseeing a broad spectrum of core curriculum programs including English as a Second Language, Science Technology Engineering, and Mathematics, Career and Technical Education, World Languages, and Gifted Services. Noteworthy accomplishments include developing a comprehensive Professional Learning Communities Toolkit and leading the development of a Curriculum and Assessment Writing Manual. Additionally, Joanne developed a core literacy steering committee to enhance literacy excellence by hosting the first Division Literacy Summit, creating a division literacy committee, and implementing a comprehensive literacy plan and playbook.Joanne’s leadership positions in Caroline County Public Schools and Hertford County Public Schools showcased her dedication to equity and innovation in education. In Caroline County, she directed curriculum and instruction for grades K-12, organized professional development for the division, and chaired several committees that engaged division staff, parents, and community partners. Most notably, she led strategic initiatives like The Young Explorers Program, aimed at identifying underrepresented students in Gifted Education. In Hertford County, Joanne served as the Curriculum Director for Secondary Schools and facilitated the process of starting an innovative Early College High School by securing an Innovative High School Grant.Additional experiences were highlighted at the Department of Public Instruction, where Joanne served as a School Transformation Coach. In addition to helping schools in a low-performing school division, she engaged on state teams to conduct comprehensive school needs assessments across the state of North Carolina. Most recently, she served as an Adjunct Professor at Longwood University, wherein she imparted valuable insights into Educational Administration and Supervision, consistently earning positive student evaluations and guiding students toward licensure success.Joanne holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech University. Her dissertation entitled The Impact of Professional Learning Communities on Instructional Practices has anchored much of her collaborative work and professional development practices. She co-published her research in a chapter of a book with her dissertation chair, the late Dr. William Glenn. The book was entitled Critical Social Justice Issues for School Practitioners, edited by Sandra Harris and Stacey Edmonds. Other accomplishments include her being named division Teacher of the Year, Principal of the Year, and the recipient of the Childley Scholarship, allowing her to participate in the Learning Forward Academy, showcasing her commitment to lifelong learning. Joanne is community-oriented and served as a school board member in Hertford County. With a proven track record of transformative principal leadership in schools that met or exceeded growth annually, developing and facilitating professional learning, conducting comprehensive needs assessments, and participating in the development of several divisions’ strategic plans, Joanne is a compassionate, collaborative, and innovative educator, well-equipped to make a significant impact in any educational setting.
